Interview: Nikkia Samuels, Therapeutic Touch

How did the idea for your business come about?

Nikkia Samuels: The idea for my business came about 14 years ago when I was on a family trip in Trinidad. We where about to go out for an evening outing and I decided to paint everyone’s nails. I said “When I get back to Bermuda, I am going opening my own nail business.”

What is the significant difference your business brings to the market?

Nikkia Samuels: I think the significant difference my business brings to the market is beauty services being provided in the homes of my clients at their time and an affordable price.

How did you decide on the location for your business?

Nikkia Samuels: I was not one to work inside, so I decide to take my business on the road and have not looked back.

How important have good employees been to your success?

Nikkia Samuels: I am a one woman business owner and in the near future would like to have at least two employees.

What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

Nikkia Samuels: My most satisfying moment in my business was this year on August 22, 2016, I celebrated 10 years of service to my clients.

Describe/outline your typical day?

Nikkia Samuels: A typical day? Well, my day is never two days alike. I may start off with no clients than end up having a full day which can be from 5 – 8 clients.

What has been your most successful form of marketing?

Nikkia Samuels: Good old fashion word of mouth has been my most successful form of marketing towards my business.

How do you build a successful customer base?

Nikkia Samuels: I have built a successful customer base with my clients by providing for their needs and accommodating to them when the time arises.

What kind of culture exists in your organization?

Nikkia Samuels: I would have to say, my life is calm and peaceful and I take values and having good morals very seriously. I am opened minded to culture and the diversity of what it brings and would welcome the customs of another’s way of life.

Excluding yours- what company or business do you admire?

Nikkia Samuels: The business I admire the most is Brown & Co., It has grown over the years and seeing it change has impressed me of how the business has shaped with these economic times.

Where you see yourself and your business in 10 years? 20 years?

Nikkia Samuels: In 10 years, my goal is to have a location that is quaint with 2-3 staff members providing the services as well as still doing mobile for those who enjoy home services. Also, I will give back to the community and start a young girls beauty club
