A GIFT FROM THE LONGTAIL - PART TWO
Make sure to read Part 1 first here: A Gift From the Longtail Part 1
While we were fanning love for this magnificent creature in a blue tapestry high above, I was reminded of the Biblical Psalm 84:3: “Even sparrows find a home and swallows find a nest for themselves. There they hatch their young you’re your altars, O Lord of Armies, my king and my God.”
These lord of flyers and beloved symbol of Bermuda, who image graces coins, coins, stamps and other island symbols, will hopefully be protected as the birds of the Bible, and last forever and keep making Bermuda their home.
We spent our 40th anniversary of a promised lifetime of fidelity in Bermuda. We saw a longtail duo touch in flight and heard their sounds communicating to each other. We learned that the touching of the wings ritual meant a courtship between the longtails for life.
Later that day, after renewing our vows at St. Anthony’s Church in Warwick, as I was sitting on my beach chair on the main beach with my husband, I looked down at the sand. Wouldn’t you know it? There was a long, thin, black and white, sturdy feather next to me. There was no mistaking it. It was a tail of a longtail. I felt like the birds heard me that I wouldn’t hurt them, and they gave me a gift of love for my anniversary.
All was well with the world. We renewed our vows that promised our own courtship for life and that our love would continue to soar on wings.
